Thank you for your letter and for the opportunity to get acquainted with the European Union Songbook project organised by your association. I was impressed by the interesting concept and pan-European scope of this project. Preserving cultural diversity in the context of pan-European unity is crucial for the development of the cultures of individual countries and for the establishment of exchanges and dialogues between them. It was a pleasure for me to get familiar with the selected six emblematic Bulgarian songs nominated with the support of the partner Prof. Asen Diamandiev Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts (AMDFA) and elected by public vote.

The European Union Songbook organization has together with qualified music teachers, music students and choir singers organized the project, and the collection of the songs is being completed through a democratic voting process by citizens of the EU member countries. “The EU Songbook” aims to assemble the first songbook for the European Union. It exchanges national song treasures in both national languages and in English translation. This project helps to improve the cultural exchange between the EU member countries and it aims to promote the unity across these countries. As Minister for Culture in Denmark, I therefore fully support this project.

Minister of Culture, Joy Mogensen

The European Union Songbook is an initiative that will help acquaint people across the continent with the variety and richness of the music traditions within the European Union. In particular, the 6 songs selected from Greece, represent centuries old traditions, both urban and rural, that embody the history, values and aesthetics of the Greek people. This intangible national treasure merits every effort to be preserved and promoted abroad, thus the European Union Songbook is perfectly aligned with the efforts and goals of the Greek Ministry of Culture.

Minister of Culture and Sport of the Hellenic Republic, Dr. Lina G. Mendoni
